I have gained some weight since becoming a dad and want to get back into running and lifting once the nanny starts. Any tips on good running shoes for a flatfooted man? Or any good weight routines?

Are you open to other workouts? SoulCycle and Pilates (specifically gyrotonic, but it’s a bit culty) are killer for me. I also love my Hokas and Ons shoes, and of those brands I think I prefer my hokas. Also, drinking a full glass of water in the morning helps reset my metabolism (I’ve lost ~30 lbs in the last year or so) I also use ozempic on occasion full disclosure

my flatfooted humans love Hoka! 💪🏼 would recommend the Bondi for foot comfort with their max cushioned support. Cliftons are also a great option for running, more lightweight and versatile

For running shoes, I found https://runrepeat.com to be very helpful. They have filters for terrain type, intended running distance and some physiological parameters among others, although there are no filters directly for foot flatness. But you might still find it helpful.

Do resistance bands and weight lifting. For cardio, stick to walking. And don’t forget to get a good night rest if at all possible with an infant in the house.

I like kettlebells and there’s a lot of good advice in the responses on using a barbell which I def recommend for running shoes I like Nikes but I’m sure there’s people who know more than I do in this area

Cardio is bad for losing weight because it only burns calories while you are doing it. Strength training burns calories all the time. Best thing is just eating less tho

Not a joke: kids are actually great weights for calisthenics. I use my newborn daughter for light resistance and my 5 year old for more intense work. And then once they start running the cardio takes care of itself.

Start simple (foundation movements) - all body weight (high volume) Lock down a proper warmup for yourself (recommend a 10-15min warm-up that involves a core routine too). Running shoe, I would say new balance. I have heard a lot of great things about them.

Don't disregard walking. Easier on your body and won't trigger your hunger like running will. Weights. I do compound lifts, full body 3x a week. Lifts from the 5x5 program. I don't go crazy heavy so I'll do a warmup set then 3 10 rep sets ( make sure the last 2 to 3 reps are difficult). Also I had someone teach me the lift technique (very important) https://www.healthline.com/health/fitness/5x5-workout

I skip cardio altogether and go for 6-8 lifts a day. A muscle group a day, 6 days a week; Chest, Back, Arms, Legs, then Chest and Back again. Been making good progress. Romanian deadlifts (light) and hyperextensions every other day have been super helpful
