A Walk in the Woods Bill Bryson narrates a summer spent hiking the Appalachian Trail, weaving in his usual history, humor, and commentary to enormous effect. You absolutely cannot go wrong with Bill Bryson. I've read almost all of his work and never have I found myself more than a few minutes from a chuckle or a capt

Dinitz-Garg-Goemans conjecture is false. This graph theory problem was open for ~30 years. The graph below has fractional flow cost 58. Any unsplittable flow (with capacity violation <=15) has cost at least 60. Chat with GPT 5.6 Pro where this was found: https://t.co/Oi2PQoab2h https://t.co/3ihncPMpve

Hadji Murat Novella portraying the defection of Muslim Chechen and famed warrior Hadji Murat to the enemy imperial Russians. This is the final work of Tolstoy and despite its short length brims with life just the same as his sprawling novels. At the back is a small Glossary of Caususian Mountaineer Words he uses thr...

Book review status update, short term plans, and reflections: We're almost exactly halfway through 2025. I've been writing a book review per day since January 1st. That's 183 reviews without missing a day, as far as I know. I've reviewed everything that I read in 2024 and almost everything I've read in 2025. The re

to get meta: in general introducing social error correcting mechanisms into processes is a good idea! liberal democracy is built on judicial review science is built on peer review it's a good idea in crypto as well, see the Arbitrum security council freezing $70m after the Kelp DAO bridge exploit or even the Ethereum...
to put it another way you can believe FIFA and they way they make decisions is a disgrace to soccer without believing this is some giant injustice to this upcoming match reality is it does the opposite and improves the fairness of the match it's the means of getting there that are the questionable part

i'll take the other side of this the possibilities: 1) BEL plays against a USA team without their top striker because a play was both incorrectly reviewed and incorrectly ruled 2) BEL plays against the USA team after briefly thinking USA would be without their top striker not having your top striker >>> briefly thin...
Really wish they would not have suspended the red card. It was sus to begin with and I do think FIFA did anything wrong. But a victory against Belgium will come with an asterisk. And now the whole world gets to question if the United States is getting special treatment. Leave it on the pitch.

i’ve been using Fabel for a day. It’s really good though painfully slow. Codex on extra high tends to be myopic and over engineer or be overly defensive and so the extra time isn’t generally justified and Low or Medium does just as good / better and faster but it seems like the extra cycles Fable spends end up resul...
