for anyone who uses AI + Voice: went on a walk the other day and wanted to learn more about [topic] so i tried out ChatGPT voice for the first time said i wanted to dig into [topic] like i was talking to an expert and started asking questions guys wow it was so dumb mirrored all my questions with ELI5 answers (that i already knew!) was i using it the wrong way or were my expectations were too high from using deep research?

Try a different approach: use Gemini to do deep research on the topic, then have it generate an audio podcast It’s much easier to absorb while on a walk. It won’t be interactive but I find the focused, topic-driven format way more valuable for learning

no you're totally right the realtime voice models are much dumber even when you request o3 or something $$ to go voice mode, however you can have a convo or kick-off a deep research then hold down on the message and have it read out loud

I built a voice to voice raspberry pi installation that utilises the Longform answers rather than the short form responses you get back in December 2023. Much more in depth but does take about 20 seconds to respond, I made sure it says "let me think about that" or "I am thinking" so users are aware. https://youtu.be/YivVZw1Y6Ao?si=CixSXkEW24X9-Yyz

voice mode is useless, imho, more because the UX is horrible than any problem ive had with the model itself or answer quality whenever i wanna do this, i press the mic button and use whisper transcribe instead, that way i can review and modify my transcripts before sending, enable deep/web research, and pick a specific model if i need it

my go to with ai + voice: “i’m going to talk through my thoughts on [abc topic] to shape and share my point of view with the team. your job is to ask follow-up questions, spot what i’m missing, and turn it into a clear, in-depth memo. please stay close to what i’m saying, ask detailed questions and don’t miss the details / data i'm mentioning”

Interesting. I use ChatGPT voice for museum tours and site visits. Used it in Japan/athens to guide me around. For that it worked pretty well but I wasn’t doing deep research.

I've mostly used Gemini's voice mode but I've found it to be pretty good. But then again I'm usually asking factual questions to get some background, not diving super deep on anything.

gemini is the best voice one, speed quality both are superior also you can share it the screen and ask questions (but thats an android thing)

I just chat with it and ask a specific tone like “don’t be so wordly, go to the specific point” you know, more casual stuff. It even answered back using my own Latino slang! 🥸🤩

i use chatgpt voice for testing my memory of concepts b4 an exam so then the mirroring of the convo kinda feels better cause i can be like “give me a teeny hint” and it can correct my gaps when i explain a concept

use it as your therapist for a walk and talk, it's much better at that I find. Plus mine has this deep, dark, kind voice and it really ~does something~
