Emotional morning. Since the marathon, I really haven’t been able to run. I developed some knee strain in the final 10K or so and it hasn’t fully subsided. I tried a 5K a couple weeks ago and was on a limp for two days. I went out today with a knee brace and couldn’t even get thru a mile. I have every negative thought rushing thru my head rn. You’re too old. Too heavy for this sport. Everyone tells you you’re built for lifting not running. Running is meditation for me. I just want to get back to it but I know I have to listen to my body. Will be focusing on strength and recovery for a while. I will get back to the road. Eventually.

Keep at it 💪 Treat it like starting from 0 (e.g. even try walking) and your body will catch up in a few weeks. You're not alone - it can take several weeks to get back to the physical (and mental) shape from pre-marathon; especially if it's your first For knee pain, focus on form while running and strength + mobility when not. A little yoga goes a longggg ways

Try to get that good running meditation time through something else if you can. I've been there with injuries and not being able to run. It's hard but you'll get through it, and stronger, when you come out the other side.

If you have access to a pool, running in the water is great for recovery.

running is not only marathons. I've learned it on myself. marathon is too long for me. it drains the joy of running out of me. I found during the years that I'm an half marathoner and that's fine. not everyone is built for long distances. find the sweet spot for you.

That's rough. I've been rehabbing a quad for 3 months and the decreased pace is killing me - You say it's a long wait to get into an ortho, Ask an AI what may be going on, some of them are very good (also, a good primary doc may be all you need) - A sports PT may be a better option because they can coach you on exercises to rehab an injury (but insurance may not cover without a referral from a doc)

It's a tough mental game when your body won't perform the way you desire it to. I feel your pain... Where is the pain concentrated? Is it dull, sharp, tight? Have you gotten it looked at?

Marathons are bad for you. I too ran one and had an injury a month prior. Finished. But was a struggle. Rest up. Take it easy. And run for the love of the game. Not the distance measure. (I have never run like I did prior to marathon fwiw… kinda sad)

there are things you can do to help with knee pain. make sure to strengthen your Tibialis. this can dramatically help with knee pain when running. weak glutes can also increase knee pain

this happened to me during the higher running challenge last year. i took 6 weeks off and got back at it one mile a day and increasing by 10% every other day. it works and helps to load the joints a bit more evenly. also constant stretching, epsom, compression socks, tiger balm, redlight device, and acetaminophen/ibuprofen all go a long way in helping flatten the peaks and troughs.
