If you find Farcaster fun, what's preventing you from inviting 1-2 friends and helping them get started here?

feedback i've received - main content is too meta or crypto-centric - non-crypto content exists, but IG/tiktok offer in greater quantity, quality, UX - hard to overcome network effects (sharing to established friends vs. strangers)

Nothing stops me when I think they will like it, or if they ask. But the # of people I know in group 1 is small, and the #2s churn :/ I even tried with my bro who was complaining about Vitalik not tweeting — I said, well he talks on Farcaster, cause at that time he did a lot. His POV was Vitalik needed to come back to X; ie he didn’t even see value in lurking. You have to be a specific personality type to fw this. I have a hard time articulating what that even is, you can just feel it

Too crypto-centric and a huge cold start problem to feel worthwhile to post and be active Most friends will cast like once and have 5 followers with no strong incentive to come back if they don’t have an existing desire to go deeper down the crypto rabbithole (which fewer and fewer people have these days)

My roomate is here and so is one of the best art curators I’ve ever met in the space It took about a year or so (and some light bullying) for them to get on here and use it on a daily basis

My perception is they will start is spam and I wouldn't be willing to bring them into that.

The friends that are easiest to onboard are the ones that already use Twitter regularly since it's the most similar form factor. Most of those friends have used Twitter less in recent years as it became harder to actually connect with people on there and shifted to engagement bait FYP slop. I try to tell them that Farcaster is basically what Twitter used to be and even better. Some of them don't really care / not worth the effort to onboard to a new app and figure it out. A couple who have tried dropped off either because of too much crypto content or just not building the habit of using it regularly (and therefore not reaching that magic moment of making friends or "getting it"). In terms of my friends who don't use Twitter (which is most of them), they are typically in the Instagram and TikTok crowd. They stay on those either to keep up with friends (entrenched existing network) or to follow content creators, both of which are pretty tough to break (or wedge a new network into). The feedback I usually get from them is "Why should I join Farcaster? I'm fine with IG / TT." Some of my friends also use Reddit and YouTube regularly but I think the usage of those tends to not be discussed as much socially unless you happen to follow the same subreddit, channel, etc. and it comes up serendipitously. Reddit people might like it here but again, too much random chatter about things they didn't sign up for (crypto / meta discussion). YouTube is an entirely different beast. Hope this helps, happy to dive into any of the points further!

Most don't even use Twitter, just Facebook and then Instagram and WhatsApp groups. Then the content here is too crypto and tech focused.

you’d have to sybil protect this but if you found a sponsor to fund “give $5, get $5” the referral program would probably do gangbusters

I've invited friends a few times. They scroll a bit, don't understand/like what they see, and just don't come back. And I just don't insist

mainstream bias has yet to catch up to reality, still a lot of conditioning on what social media is available (all tje web2 incumbents) vs. the positive and powerful developments happening here
