The software industry just needs to start adding AI agents as a target user. Their requirements are different than humans. UIs will make sense for the use cases that still require a human. CLI tools and RPCs make sense for use cases meant for AI agents.

I stand with human coders

JIT software and UI are the future, but not in the way they’ve been built so far. Software and UI affordances are just means to an end. As AI handles more tasks via tools, those ends are shifting: more tools for AI, less UI for humans to tinker with. A fundamental shift in human-computer interaction.

Knowing when and how humans should be in the loop will make or break a product going forward.

Now more than ever, when building software you need to think deeply about the job to be done and whether it's a job that needs human interaction or not. More jobs/tasks will be done by AI but there will still be many cases in which the humans will be in the loop. Build for that.
