i would imagine a large part of why this is true is because *most* people assume there is some baseline of privacy purely for legal/regulatory reasons/trust their govt to set those -- but this is a super western pov also im guessing

Most apps that don't work without confidentiality though. E.g. Tinder doesn't work if swipes are public. And the big opportunity in the decentralized space is that confidentiality automatically brings privacy, because the user owns the data. So if decentralized confidential apps win, then privacy wins too.

That’s why ethereum or crypto wont bring everyone onchain, you need to actually become aware to care about your privacy and most normies or people aren’t aware of how broad certain things are yet.

Could be true. Most people just want things to work smoothly and don’t think much about privacy until it’s a problem.

I think one of the main issues here is that the privacy breach is not "see-able" and being so (not evident) its critical reach is not easily understood by the average user

They don’t care when times are good, but do they care when times get rough. Source: I lived in Myanmar during the coup in 2021. People didn’t care about privacy until the military started to weaponize telco and banking data to identify and arrest pro-democracy actors. Then they got really savvy real fast.
