As an adult, posting tweets for long periods of time is a form of depression. If you don’t believe me, ask yourself this. Think about the 100 greatest moments of your life. Do any of those moments include twitter? Probably not. And this comes from a lifetime tweeter.

Scripting tank combat in Lua in BOLO was one of my 100 favorite experiences. Also writing/programming games in hypertext. Exploring Skyrim. Playing some FPSes with a specific group of friends.

my take on this is that life is about phases, and a video game phase can be awesome, but needs other more productive phases.

this kind of take is usually some form of projection: a person has formed an opinion about their idea of the good life, they want affirmation, and the easiest way to get it is to frame that opinion as a take about how others should live

I beg to differ. When I was in school, my mates would come over and play fifa on my PS1 and my minder would constantly shoo them off in a peculiar manner just before my parents come home. We still joke about it 20 years later.

Disagree - gaming, especially with friends, has led to some of the happiest and most positive moments of my life, as I'm sure it has for others :)

I think of it as another art form you can get immersed in. Can be a book, a movie, a video game. It can be an enriching escape, and can be experiential if you take something away from it, or something of it carries into your life. Trouble is when it begins to replace your life

WHY do we play? Children and adults, dogs and cats.. Not every action produces a direct 'benefit' for us.
