in a coffee shop line watching a grandfather play with his granddaughter and it hit me how incredible it is that, for some of us, life gives us the chance to experience our parents “parenting”, to see their tenderness and inner child at play with our own children why are there tears coming out of my eyes

Someone told me that part of the special relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is that it's like the grandparents are getting to revisit their own kids. They get to relive days with their favorite little versions of their kids that they never got to say goodbye to because a bigger, different version just replaced them as they grew 🥺

they aren't parenting though, they're grandparenting-- which is actually pretty different in every case i've ever seen. hard parents become soft grandparents

many grandparents get a second chance at parenting with grand children. especially when they have regrets.

One of the most special moments I will ever have is getting to watch the surprise on my In-laws faces. They were flying in to visit us and meet Royal Heir, their first grandchild. @fairygodmother and I surprised them at the airport. It was a truly once in a lifetime moment.

It really is remarkable to watch. In my experience, they are different people; my parents are different when they’re around my kids then when they’re just around me, and vice versa. Absolutely next level enjoyment to sit back and watch them together.

It’s going to absolutely ruin me It was me and mum against the world for years; A lot of hustling and we’re now at a place where we’re secure and just enjoying life It was always going to be harder given she had me at 40 but now she’s happier than ever, so I’ll treasure all the time they have together even more

This just made me realize I always hear about how they got "soft" when they became grandparents We are witnessing the moments that we ourselves had forgotten but they learned how important these moments are. I'm sure there some truths to the wisdom gained via years as a parent first etc

Sadly there is a current epidemic of “active seniors” who are far less engaged in their grandkids’ lives. If you have time for 15 reoccurring hobbies you should have time for your grandkids. Glad this guy gets it at least.

Feeling a little /emotional when experiencing a moment of pure joy is part of what makes us human. I have about two or three of those moments a day when I am with my nieces. 💟

when people become parents they are too busy to experience the fun things with their kids because they are juggling so many things, many times on very little sleep. becoming a grandparent allows them to become the parent they wanted to be the first time around with their grandchildren. for those parents out there: all those times you said you were too busy, you will realize that most of the time you DID have time to do that thing with your child(ren). you just didn't think you did in the moment.
