For those of you living in NYC — does it sound about right to be spending around $400 a month for two people on groceries? Or is that low/high?

Added context, mostly eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner at home (except for weekends optionally eat out)

+1 on insanely low responses. $200/month per person in NY and you all mostly eat at home is wild to me

That’s very good imo, I typically spend at least double that in a month where I’m actually cooking What kinds of groceries do you buy and where do you usually shop?

Yeah that’s insanely low. Easily spend 3x - 4x that for two people when not eating out

Absolutely doable. But you have to be intentional and you better live close to an affordable grocery store; this is harder to come by than you might think. A lot of groceries get purchased at local stores that are small and pricey due to convenience. Like, “oh we just need some milk, eggs, butter, and a few vegetables” if you grab a bag of chips too then say goodbye to $40

Low for sure. We buy from expensive butchers + farmers markets + costco and spend closer to 800-900m

That is exceptional. When we’re being good that number is $1200 combined eating out + groceries for me and my wife. Even normalized for me eating like 2 people that’s about $400/person
