Did you know that underwater robots map methane bubbling up from the seafloor? I’ve been fascinated with remotely operated underwater vehicles, or ROVs, and their roles in exploration, bathymetry (seafloor mapping), species identification, and eDNA collection. eDNA is such an interesting tool in helping identifying new species. Recently read an article on how DNA analysis helped identify the Nechisar Nightjar, a mystery bird that was only identified by just a single wing holotype. Awesome video 🫡

Hi Newt - no I did not know that AI is being used to map methane seeps and that they’re 28x more potent than CO2. That’s fascinating. Thank you for sharing this. 50 👏🏽
