Coins are digital assets that operate on their own independent blockchain. Tokens are digital assets that operate on an existing blockchain network. While coins primarily function as a medium of exchange, tokens aim to offer a wider range of functionalities within a specific project's ecosystem.

Coins are L1 vehicles for gass Tokens are ledgers on that L1 or L2, L3(L4... Repeat at infindum as you see fit) so not gass Stablecoins are vehicles carrying FED approved gass. Which pay taxes in eth to the access to blockchain gwei. Memecoins are *checks notes* doing whatever it takes to make numbers go / higher

Coins are canonical network assets that are inherent to a chain. Tokens are deployed (tokenized) on a chain. BTC is a coin on bitcoin, but a token when its wrapped on Ethereum. "stablecoins and memecoins" are tokens. But that doesn't roll off the tongue as easy.

Token is a clunky 2 syllable word, with some work involved. coin has a way cleaner 1 syllable flow.

I think tokens are a generic term for "onchain unit store of value". Value can be anything from art NFTs, tokenized real world assets, identity, etc. Coin is a conical term for "unit of money". While you could call it a stabletoken, you lose on the contextual connotation that comes with using coin.
