In most cases on the internet, audience and community are downstream of the platform they are formed on. There are exceptions. 2. Migration is an individual act. Individuals try new things and successfully migrate. Very few communities successfully migrate. Usually, they fracture or fade. 3. Path dependency is real! Just because another network used a tactic at a point in time doesn't mean it's universal. In fact, most of the time it's not replicable since it was successful in capturing a given cohort that there's no one left to target like that. 4. Most consumers are creatures of habit. They get used to a set of tools, networks, experiences and they stick to them, even if stuff gets way worse. 5. Finally, and most importantly, do not underestimate the power of network effects. Companies that have them are valuable for that reason.

2 is so important. I’ve been begging friends to leave behind meta products for almost a decade but they are addicted even knowing how toxic, bad for privacy, data collecting shenanigans, etc. Lizard brain won’t let go. They need a catalyst to move and that seems to be a very personal decision.

Convincing people frustrated to move to farcaster is a dead end IMO. Any at scale consumer platform either needs word of mouth or network effects. Or can just go home.

re 4-simply the concept of “status quo bias” explains how people prefer things to stay the same by default. Familiarity often trumps innovation in practice.

There are periods of "vulnerability" (or openness, depending on how you see it), when people form new relationships and habits. During these periods people are more open to try and switch to a new network. This is why college students are an important target for social networks, and this is why change is often generational. And there's also the case of a new paradigm: Instagram was "express yourself with photos", in a mostly text-dominated environment, addressed to a generation that was growing up with digital cameras, and was more proficient in image than text.

people always say that they love change, but deep down they hate it with a vengeance. i personally think that the work the team is doing on enhancing and removing roadblocks in the onboarding experience will help, in addition to word of mouth (especially now that we don't have to explain the warpcast -> farcaster thing)

What I found on Farcaster, I didn’t find it on any other platform. FC is hands down my No1. About people: IMO the new product is feelings and people will go where they can find some kind of feeling (feeling is the new dope ). Most people are chasing attention, that’s why they follow trends.

Happy Friday! In my opinion, both people and the World in general are constantly changing. Therefore, the success stories of the past can help to better plan a recruitment strategy in the future, but it doesn't assure you 100% that it will be the right one. It's very important to have a strong community, but this can only be achieved by demonstrating that the platform has a unique plus that no other company has, and that makes people want to use your product above the rest. A copy of another product will not generate any interest in that product if it can already be used in the other one.

Speaking about getting people to Farcaster, there's a type of aggressive marketing that'll work, and it's going to be both billboards and videos. Real people will talk about the platform in a very relatable way that'll entice users of other platforms. Right now, Farcater has all the features that'll get people excited, they just need to know about Farcaster

Yeah, that reply makes sense but feels too idealistic. You can’t build everything from scratch with limited time, funds, and energy. Integrating existing apps doesn’t hurt. It actually helps users, especially on mobile where many individual apps still suck. Farcaster can fill that gap. Building your own tools is nice, but let’s be honest, a lot of people are here for the airdrop. I went Pro 50% for speculation. If we don’t grow before the airdrop, what’s left after? Less activity, fading hype. Network effects are great. Integrations and collaboration save time and keep users in the app.
