for those interested, we're going with a CSR based approach after some prototyping. primary reasons: 

1. we can ship our web client much faster today (~2x faster)
2. secure client-side crypto is impossible with SSR

excited about SSR + Next in general, but we might be a year too early for them

We have our own auth stack, since it’s built on using ecdsa signatures

curious if you are going to roll your own auth or use a vendor

Feel like everything is built on Nextjs these days

WaPo is built on Next but authentication layer is not next-auth

- as industry we finally realized that users have supercomputers in their hands and we don't want to compute everything centrally with ssr
- best case initial load of bundle is ~300kb (bit.ly/3woeAXH) as opposed to ~13kb with preact (bit.ly/3kDNkC5)
- we came up with cdn's, use them to serve bundles

etc etc etc

don't use nextjs for the love of god 👀
