when i see criticism around creator coins, i ask myself a) who is criticizing, b) what is their role in the industry, c) what is the criticism (e.g. what is the root of their frustrations)? in doing so, it becomes clear quite quickly that most people's core problem or frustration isn't really with creator coins.

What’s their frustration with? (I’m nor here nor there; interested in different perspectives)

has anyone been real with these folks and exposed that their core frustration is every single coin doesn't make them a ton of instant money while they're sitting on their ass? that's what's really going on here haha

My problem with it is that it does little to actually attract thoughtful content, and further turns to dial towards social being transactional, which further narrows the audience that is attracted to the platform to those who only want transactional social. The thing is, the teams that are doing this are blinded by vanity metrics that are clearly their North Star: market caps. What they miss is that it only amounts to a second order effect — the attention it accrues bringing money, which will leave just as quickly because creator monetization in web2 social was an ecosystem driver for content, separate from the users directly sending money (typically), rather than a direct flow.

when you see someone arguing in the defense of creator coins, ask yourself a) who is defending it b) what is their role in the industry and connection to base c) what is the premise of their argument (and what is their main motivation for the adoption of creator coins)? in doing so, it becomes clear quite quickly that most people's core arguments have nothing to do with creators but with generating onchain activity, fees, and value accrual for their projects at the expense of disguised shitcoin adoption.

The idea makes no sense If I buy a creator coin, how exactly do I profit when they grow and profit? Is there some revenue sharing? If I bought Kim Kardashians token twenty years ago, would she be paying me royalities now? No. I’d have a bunch of tokens that only go up as a collection item/hype Creator coins are dumb until they are probably tied to revenue, which for the foreseeable future will be based on the honor system. Anyone series is sick of non revenue generated value We are DYING for tokens that make money and have some tie to revenue the way stocks do

1. Does this logic apply to most people who "support creator coins"? Is the root of their support self-serving, because they make $$$? 2. What does it even mean "criticism around creator coins". Around has many sides. There is "I like the concept, I hate Base and Zora shoving them I'm my face", there's "it's a trap for creators that end up with locked liquidity", there are so many different things "around" creator coins. Why do you think it's either pro or against?

agree that most people's criticisms (of anything) are rooted in grievance. that's why i 1) try to be very specific about the technical issues i see and 2) congratulate people (including myself) who have made good money holding $zora

Creator coins don't lead automatically to earnings for everyone. The new Base app is useless and you can only use it on mobile, no channels. Not sure how the people in the ranking on Base app, can earn so much money every week without actually making any interesting enough content.

My main reservation is that the snipers dominate. Feels crazy to post and promote coins I know friends will buy and snipers will dump. Am I missing something here?

optimal word here is 'most' but not all. the root of their frustrations is they way they are marketed, not the way they actually are.

Creator coins and the low quality content they’re associated with are easy to ignore. They kinda fund this site; so who cares about them when you can enjoy high quality people and their casts.

idk would u lump my frustrations in with those? i think i generally think there have been missteps in communicating the value of creator coins very specifically (and I've highlighted other tokenomics with better claims on value accrual)
