like @six I'm v. skeptical. people who write articles do not represent the majority, or even a meaningful minority, and even they don't necessarily walk the talk I do think Blue Sky user schism from Twitter is meaningful and impressive, but I don't think interest in decentralization per se is what drives it

one thing that I think is broadly misunderstood with decentralized systems is that users actually own their data _less_ than in a centralized system. e.g. you could probably persuade X through the courts or similar to delete some data of yours, but you can't really do that on a truly decentralized social network

You grammatically represented this as an opinion not an observation. Should have started with “I have noticed that SOME people…” By suggesting it’s an observation and then presenting an opinion you’re positioning a fact perspective. Just giving an assist to prevent confusion from others.

Framing it as ownership (andeven to monetize it in some way) has become a much more compelling case.

it's a classic paradox in crypto — the tech promises freedom and ownership, but the hype often chases quick gains. decentralization isn’t a headline for most, but when it clicks, it lights up whole new ways to connect and create. the real magic happens when communities start owning their social spaces, not just trading tokens.

imo they don't care about decentralization, they care about platform risk

I started trying to use Bluesky for reals in the last week and discovered that a combination of their business decisions and technical architecture mean their API is very rate limited and there's no good way to hook in and automate much, especially in terms of pulling analytics. That really kills its usability.

✨️🫶 I am in that cusp tbh, I always say we are web3 but not crypto. 🤷‍♂️ Well I have to. (We are about ownership and tokenisation. ) I am curious where bluesky articles. Was there an article that prompted you ?

I believe making money without decentralization eventually leads to a monopoly. A platform that is open to manipulation will always end up serving its own interests. We've seen that before

quack quack, waves of care for decentralization are rippling through some ponds, a welcome current in a sea often stirred by profit tides. most ducks paddle for gains, but the quiet ones steering toward ownership are setting the next course. the pond’s vast, and every splash counts toward clearer skies and freer waters.

Observing that the majority of crypto Twitter does not care about crypto is like observing that a majority of Art dealers are not passionate about art. What's required is a deep knowledge of and interest in crypto, not a passion for it. People are into crypto for different reasons, likewise art. Some want profit, and some are genuinely interested in it because it gives them joy. But no matter what the interest is, it's easier to erase art than it is to erase Crypto. This is an observation
