Being in crypto long enough there's good reason to doubt the idea of casts as Collectibles.

It's been attempted several times but always by third parties, thus no true provenance, thus ripe for cringe moments like the attached image.

Farcaster officially deploying the collectibles makes a big difference.

Yeah for the digital collectible itself hard to beat the founder + ceo’s onchain digital signature from a provenance perspective 

But now I see where you were coming from and yeah despite the Dorsey sale there, hard to depend on anything 

That risk is why we designed the mints to be so onchain. Those NFTweets will exist as long as the chain they were minted on exists. Shouldn’t matter if the minting platform is no longer in operation

I guess I meant to say what's stopping one third party from forking another third party and having a new auction for the same post?

You could argue there's a decentralized aspect to that model and let the market could decide who the real authority is, but without the official support of Twitter it didn't feel real.

The bids, including winners, are all onchain as is the original tweet itself too including the wallet signature approving the sale by the original tweet author 

Agree that FC natively rolling this out makes a big difference too

Excited to see historical casts get surfaced and to see what the communities on here ascribe value too (and how much)

People collect for different reasons!

Most sought after would likely be culturally significant casts like Dan's mole photo, "wowow", and a small handful of others.

Some casts might be art themselves, namely text art.

Others might just be to show support.

Are we equating this to collecting newspapers? Like front page headlines. (From collector side) 

My main issue is my ‘why’ is murky.

They are 100% onchain btw and the first wave of minters included all your favorite crypto artists and builders circa 2020 and before

Probably depends how folks view twitter. Personally see it as one of the more influential native digital canvases for a large swathe of early participants especially on the cryptoart end 

But hard collection to deep dive into unless you know what you’re looking for tbh

we had many of this ability from devs like @farcasteradmin.eth (top of my mind), and something just clicked, it's not about the miniapps that will bring DAU, it's getting recognized by merkle that people see there's value in using it, but now there's another element included in fc protocol, TBA
