We're welcoming our first intern at @nodefoundation tomorrow. She'll be working with us this summer to create an amazing IRL guest experience when we open later this year. I want this experience to be great for her. What do you wish you had during your college internship or first job?

I really appreciated the invitations to meals on the weekend outside of work and getting to meet people I wouldn’t ordinarily at school who were years ahead of me. The way conversation flows while breaking bread is different, more honest. I learned a lot from just sitting and listening in those free-form chats.

No idea, yet in the ag community we collab to host farm visits so apprentices can build community and see different operations. Maybe too late, yet creating a cohort for them to connect with other summer interns might make sense. No idea if this is remote vs in person. Yet helping to build social capital seems a valuable assist for folks starting out imo. I’m also a big fan of mentoring around journaling as a learning too - spending a bit of time at the end of the day. This creates reflection points for the future.

I think i would have loved more advice but i wasn’t great at asking for it. So, be proactive and go with more unsolicited advice (trying to frame that here as not a bad thing). Example: Ask me: what are the 1-3 areas you see going from here Tell me: here’s how i would advance in those areas if i were you

I gave this real thought and I really don’t know. Had to lone wolf it quite a bit through my career. Not saying it’s a good way for many, but also I learned quite a lot from having to do so *end rambling*
