Kandawgyi Lake (ကန်တော်ကြီး), meaning "Great Royal Lake" is one of Yangon's two major lakes. Located east of the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda, this artificial lake was originally constructed during the British colonial era to supply clean water to the city. Water is channeled from Inya Lake through a network of pipes to maintain its levels. Kandawgyi Lake is not only a functional reservoir but also a scenic attraction. Its picturesque surroundings, including lush greenery and the famous Karaweik Palace, make it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. #Myanmar #Burma #KandawgyiLake

The Shwezigon Pagoda, or Shwezigon Paya (ရွှေစည်းခုံဘုရား), is a historic Buddhist stupa in Nyaung-U, Myanmar. A prototype for Burmese stupas, it features a gilded circular stupa surrounded by smaller temples and shrines. Construction began under King Anawrahta (r. 1044–1077) in 1059–1060 and was completed in 1102 during King Kyansittha’s reign. Over the centuries, it has suffered damage from earthquakes and other natural disasters but has been repeatedly restored. Recent renovations added over 30,000 copper plates, though the lowest terraces remain unchanged. #Myanmar #Burma #ShwezigonPagoda

Manuha Temple (မနူဟာဘုရား) is a historic Buddhist temple located in Myinkaba, near Bagan, Myanmar. It was built in 1067 by the captive Mon King Manuha, according to inscriptions he left behind. The temple is one of the oldest in Bagan and reflects the Mon architectural influence. King Manuha, the last ruler of Thaton, was captured by King Anawrahta of Bagan in 1057 when the latter conquered the Mon Kingdom. As a prisoner in Bagan, Manuha requested permission to build a temple, which he designed to symbolize his feelings of captivity and suffering. The temple’s structure and the positioning of the Buddha images reflect this sentiment. #Myanmar #Burma #ManuhaTemple #Bagan

The Kyauk Myat Maw Pagoda sits along the Ayeyawady River in the southern part of Myin Ka Bar village, near Soe Myin Gyi Pagoda. This ancient structure features a two-tiered design on the same plinth, with an inner octagonal chamber adorned with Pyu-era artwork. The interior and exterior sections are separated by pillars, each about three feet wide. Archaeologists estimate that the pagoda was built between the 12th and 13th centuries AD. Beyond its historical significance, the site captivates visitors with breathtaking sunset views over the Ayeyawady River and iconic vistas of Tant Kyi Taung. #Myanmar #Burma #KyaukMyat MawPagoda

Burmese salads are a vibrant and diverse part of Burmese cuisine, known for their bold flavors and unique textures. These salads blend cooked and raw ingredients, mixed by hand to create a perfect balance of taste and mouthfeel. They can be enjoyed in various ways, on their own as a snack, as a side dish accompanying Burmese curries, or even as a main course. Among the many varieties, the most iconic is laphet thoke (fermented tea leaf salad), traditionally served as a palate cleanser at the end of a meal. #Myanmar #Burma #Salads

The Ananda Temple (အာနန္ဒာ ဘုရား) in Bagan, is a renowned Buddhist temple built in 1105 AD during King Kyansittha’s reign (1084–1112/13) of the Pagan Dynasty. Its cruciform layout features multiple terraces leading to a small pagoda topped with an ornamental umbrella (hti), a common element in Myanmar's pagodas. The temple houses four standing Buddha statues, each facing a cardinal direction. A fusion of Mon and Indian architectural styles, Ananda Temple is considered an architectural masterpiece and has been dubbed the "Westminster Abbey of Burma." It closely resembles the 10th–11th century Pathothamya Temple and is also known as a "veritable museum of stones." #Myanmar #Burma #AnandaTemple
