I think it's a good amount of real people who aren't fluent in english, using AI to translate their comments so they all sound a little robotic and the same.

The data never lies. Here are the top 15 casts on Farcaster from the past hour, made by users with Warpcast label 2 and ranked by most likes received from label 2 users. Label 2 is supposed to be good at identifying users that are "unlikely to engage in spammy behavior" - but the data tells a different story

I can recognize one, maybe two from the blurred pfps. I wager they're all real, maybe just don't realize this type of engagement can be off putting at scale. There's an art and science to replying on social networks. 20 years of these interactions have a lot of us burnt out and jaded; doesn't help that this network financially incentivizes interactions one way or another (last year it was degen, now it's the Warpcast rewards, who knows what it'll be in the future)

Are you sure they are getting paid? I am on here a lot and I barely get $3 every second week.

The quote out there claiming Farcaster only has 37 users may be a bit extreme but there's certainly not tens of thousands of users here - the follower counts some accounts have that are used as indicators of value are dubious at best and suffocating to new, real users at worst. There are a huge number of bot/sybil/extreme low quality accounts on here. The spam scores etc are a decent start but there needs to be better ways of surfacing "real" accounts as time goes on.

As long as the algo pays for engagement farming, the algo will get engagement farming. Especially at the current size of active users, gaming the algo doesn’t even need AI. One person grinding can do it if that’s how they wanna spend their time. Ironically, being small is a benefit for Farcaster. If it was large, the gaming would be way worse.
