I haven't listened to the Thiel interview yet but one thing I did find striking is the truly bizarre colour grading. you can see the original on the left and my 2-second correction on the right. you would be hard-pressed to grade this footage in a less flattering way, almost as if your explicit goal was to make the subjects look alien. blue casts are a non-starter for skin tones.

Great observation. An example of why I believe everyone needs "video literacy" these days - understanding the very subtle choices editors have to manipulate people into a certain feeling about the subject.

What about the interviewer angle or other interviews from the same interviewer? What are the colours? (I didn’t watch the full interview). The colour grading is definitely a choice in post.

the skin tones are so off i can't. went to check other videos on this guy's YT channel and they're much warmer and better graded. i reckon this environment was not helping either tbh, but damn... it feels intentional indeed

As a sound guy, you think teams do a last mastering with an actual professional? 😭

Some time ago I've seen a movie with even worse color grading, it was looks like straight from the camera, raw unedited. The funny thing: The director has won prizes for such low quality movies, very amateur.

People don't realize how much of an effect a simple one minute color grading really has. But yeah this was intentional.
