No, Laszlo was not a shortsighted buffoon. Quite the opposite.
Laszlo was a major contributor to the BTC code, having INVENTED GPU mining (a huge deal, btw, as he was mining thousands of BTC while others were mining tens) and mining on MacOS, and didn't "mess this up" and sold his stack for 2 pizzas. It was a deliberate move. And he did it several times. Yes, Laszlo spent over 80k BTC from April to November 2010 on pizza and other goods.
At that point, nothing has been bought with BTC. I know this is difficult to imagine NOW, with crypto credit cards and crypto payment gateways. But back then, it was seen as (technically) digital "nothing" by 99,99% of the world. He proved it can serve as a currency.
You'd all, very likely, have nothing now, if it wasn't for Laszlo.
