Todays /success topic of the day: What’s one outdated practice or belief that you think needs to be challenged or discarded? I think we need to change the practice of saying “the customer is always right.” This can lead to toxic client relationships and to unreasonable expectations. It’s ok to say NO. What do you think?

The “man always pays for dinner out” is tired and patriarchal… sometimes even transactional. My manhood doesn’t feel threatened when a woman wants to pick up the check, I find it to be sweet and a nice change.

I've always believed that this saying is only applicable at the retail store front level. Customers or clients can be difficult, and some try to take advantage of that relationship. There are some people out there who simply consider being a pain in the ass, a part of doing business. For those people I have to ask myself 'is the juice worth the squeeze'? (I'm paraphrasing someone there; I don't remember who). If the answer to that is no, then I'll thank them for considering and choosing me, but I'm not going to be able to work with them. You know, in a perfect world. Sometimes though I just have to grin and bear it and wait for the weekend.

seeing all of these companies mandating return to office is just an indication that they don’t understand that today’s workers. you can get so much more work out of remote employees if they don’t need to spend the time traveling to and from work. also having them sit in an office with no interaction is just pointless

"The customer is always right" is wrong ... i worked at an upscale bar and this regular who lived across the street was acting like a jerk so i kicked him out. He then called 911 on me from outside the bar, they came a few minutes later and took him to jail for public intoxication. Insane entitlement

I think sometimes but not with every customer especially not old customers who are really trustworthy. Otherwise, you’re right. I believe that starting relationships should not be done carelessly. It should begin with the guidance of psychologists and psychiatrists so that toxic and harmful relationships 1/2

Another outdated belief is the idea that 'failure is the end.' Many people see failure as a final stop and miss the chance to learn from it. In reality, failure is often a stepping stone to success and a valuable opportunity for growth. Instead of viewing failure negatively, we should embrace it as a necessary part of the journey.

I totally agree 👍 Setting boundaries is important for a healthy working relationship. Another outdated belief that needs to be rethought is the idea that multitasking is productive. In reality, focusing on one task at a time often leads to better results.

“im not creative” how many people have said that as a consequence of having been raised as they were, or brought up by an educational system that didn’t worry about bringing the best out of them, but forcing them into constraints. you need to be an engineer. if not you can’t add value to life so we get to see only the creative genious of those that are crazy enough to not care about what people say how many voices have we not heard? how many paintings have not been painted? we are all creative it’s on our nature as human beings

"Go to school, get good grades, be a doctor (or equivalent), get a job with good benefits & work until retirement" I recognize that it's not as common today but, people growing up in households with older generations still share that mindset. This could not be further from the truth... Although it may still be a viable option for some, it is definitely not the only, nor the best option in today's world. It's time we break free of old ideals & embrace the new opportunities we have now.

Conservatism. In my country, where we are colonized by spain, japan, and america. We've learned the hard way, different culture spur but the one thing I hate the most is conservatism. Maybe it's good for moral etiquette but some are needed to change.

Another outdated practice that should be rethought is the idea that “working longer means you’re more productive.” It often leads to burnout and doesn’t always mean better results. Focusing on doing quality work and having a healthy worklife balance is much more effective.

this is a great one. I definitely agree with discarding this belief entirely. can easily be abused and manipulated by the customer. of course, not always or every scenario/situation is like that and you can tell organically if that is happening in the moment or not.

An outdated belief I thus should be discarded is “work smarter, not harder” because in reality you need to work smarter and harder tbh That’s the only way to achieve max productivity

The customer is not always right. Acknowledging that the customer is not always right helps keep the balance between customer and employee satisfaction. Both are essential for the success of your business.
