benefits to therapy vs not I think therapy is ultimately not about solving your emotional problems but rather it’s about going to gym but for your emotions. Building muscles that can enable you to lift different things. If you don’t want to get jacked (emotionally) it’s kind of a waste of time in the same way someone who’s really interested in orthonology is going to get really soil science. Just different areas to focus on.

Bion talks about how painful emotions don’t just disappear. They stay. What changes is our capacity to tolerate them. Therapy isn’t about removing pain, but about developing the tools to think about it, to stay with it without being overwhelmed.

it’s a language. there have been times in conflict when i tried to resolve things the way i knew how, and the other person who doesn’t go to therapy felt irritated that i was “therapizing” them. i wasn’t intentionally. it made me realize that not only do we learn to use the tools through therapy, but we also learn a very distinct set of vocabulary that commands and deploys those tools in specific ways

i usually say to people that the only purpose of therapy is for you getting an insight

totally agree! therapy is like a workout for your mind. building those emotional muscles can really change how you handle life’s challenges. it’s all about growth and finding strength in yourself. love this perspective!

For me therapy has been like classes. Couples therapy has taught me communications tools, boundary setting, emotional check ins. Individual therapy has been more about examining then changing/ creating behavior patterns. I find these tools to be applicable in many relationships and parts of my life, more than just the area of emotions.
