There is no demand for “getting paid to create content” on social media platforms (or blockchains for that matter). 1. Every other social media platform has thrived with no user incentive to post besides an audience. An audience is a better incentive than cash! You can sell whatever you want to an audience. This excludes YouTube which requires significantly more effort to create content on. 2. Not everyone can be a “content creator”. Content is infinitely reproducible and sharable, meaning the top 1% will get 99% of the attention. There’s no longer a local musician in every town. There’s a select few for the whole world. The whole thing is a massive grift to inflate usage and content that no one will ever see.

respectfully: I vehemently disagree the sports betting industry thrives off of heavy conversation about sports events on the timeline (and heavily compensate the top 0.5-1% of “creators” with lucrative deals to an extent you can’t imagine)

i think im fully aligned with you but i have a devil's advocate perspective - consider the sports industry, especially the hs->college->pro pipeline - do you think the odds/payouts/success-rates are comperable? if it's 1% of content creators, do you think more or less than 1-in-100 hs sports players make it to pro? if you're a mediocre high school student with poor job prospects, is the EV better on the basketball team or on Instagram? if you choose to go into sports, what's your life look like after the brief career? how does this compare to your long term prospects as an influencer? i have considered this many times and i think the 1% number definitely sucks and fools a lot of people, but, on the whole, i think it's a better job opportunity than being a pro athlete

You're right — not everyone will be a full-time creator. But maybe that’s okay. The goal isn’t to make everyone rich by tweeting. It’s to build systems where contributors — even niche ones — can get some ownership, whether through tokens, influence, or even just recognition.

This is less a byproduct of what people want, and more a byproduct of the monetization engine underneath (ad spend across aggregated views) The 1000 true fans thesis is more alive than ever and is our way out of this enshittification arc we've been in for the past 20 years

Incentivizing content with money dilutes authenticity and floods feeds with low-effort noise. Real value comes from building trust with an audience, not chasing pennies per post. Most of this “earn while you post” stuff is just vanity metrics in disguise.

this is not fully true, the social platforms need to compete for the top talent. TikTok and Instagram both debuted creator funds in part to compete with YouTube (and also with each other)
