Super excited to announce the launch of livestreaming on @pinetree!
We launched Pinetree on May 1st at FarCon NYC, with the goal of being the best place for casters to create and share long-form videos
Now, we're excited to build upon that foundation and add support for live content

The most important thing I learned about crypto in 2025: itβs all about markets
Crypto is the only tech that allows *anyone* in the world to deploy universal markets. Seems obvious, but I only internalized this after working with @giu
2025 was about playing with toy markets. 2026 will be about giving them meaning

One of the most counter-culture things you can do right now is to be balanced with your empathy
Our collective empathy calibration has failed, leading to shocking cruelty on one end, and total lack of boundaries on the other
If a healthy limit is to be reestablished, it starts at the individual level and radiates out

I'm reminded of @hyperbadβs cast when I check my socials and see endless streams of the political controversy du jour
Farcaster felt like a refuge from this (ie. a home for the "gray tribe"), but the pivot into trading attention assets leads us inevitably to the largest sink of online attention right now: politics

Grateful for Farcaster and for crypto
This world would be a lot darker if not for this insane cypherpunk technology
When things feel bleak and it all feels nihilistic, remember that Bitcoin and crypto stand for freedom and self-sovereignty in world increasingly surveilled and controlled
Happy Thanksgiving!

PSA β donβt model Farcaster as a public good
It is a company that needs to make money and grow market share. They have to try things until something works at scale. Otherwise, we lose even the chance of positive externalities
There is less tension when we let go of idealized versions of things and accept reality
Farcaster's founding premise was building social that doesn't extract from users the way Web2 platforms do. That vision still matters to me.
But watching the platform aggressively push casino mechanics while influential accounts push extractive, low-cap shitters is potentially more predatory.

Train Dreams was unlike anything else I watched this year
A beautiful and touching movie, and bumps Joel Edgerton up as one of my favorite actors in the game right now (Dark Matter enjoyers already know)
