If you invited someone to Farcaster in the last 3 months and they 1) signed up but 2) then stopped using the app after a few days or weeks, what was the reason they gave you?

Biased algorithm: 1.) After completing all verifications, they started appearing in โ€œmore repliesโ€ and couldnโ€™t regain normal visibility. 2.) Claimed the algorithm only favors OGs, and you need interaction from solid accounts to get proper exposure.

content shock "it's like twitter" -> "it's nothing like twitter" most of them barely use twitter if at all, small subset are lurkers and keep up with interests/world news on X/threads occasionally they think it's cool, mini apps are interesting, changes their frame of thinking around social apps but it's not a game they are familiar with/ want to actively engage in or perhaps don't know how

It's >3 months ago but the reason was TikTok/IG. They just don't consume content that isn't reels/toks anymore, unless it's articles, and usually then they're consuming breakdown carousels like "wehavethedata" on IG. My Substack friends wouldn't even try it and just said "no crypto bullshit". Reddit people were similar except they said they would try it and then didn't (might be a me/them/our relationship thing).

That Farcaster seems like it hit a high water mark and is now dying - there are accounts with massive followings (100k+) but get maybe a few dozen likes per post.

- home feed was too crypto + meta - they needed handholding on who to follow, so i had to manually suggest folks they might enjoy following - didn't get much visibility/engagement on their initial 2-3 posts. too much lift to post/reply and build followership - made them follow/join couple of channels, which was a decent hook (this point is my unbiased pov :))

I've gotten the feedback that they don't felt seen. I did some investigative work on this and almost in every instance one thing I observed is my friends would cast but don't spend time scrolling & replying. I do call them out on it and tell them they need to spend sometime finding people with shared interests, replying, etc. Almost feels like people need some sort of remedial course on how social media works ๐Ÿ˜‚

It's almost always been one of these few reasons: 1. Didn't know who to follow or what to do 2. They didn't understand 75% of what was going on on the timeline since it was so much crypto stuff 3. Posted and tried it but nobody engaged 4. They couldn't find easily content, apps or people that they were interested in

Maybe they get a lil lost because everything is in English, people who donโ€™t have English as their first language really get lost here, maybe an automatic translation tool like Instagram could be an option for this problem, another thing maybe not too many people are used to the crypto world so much so for them itโ€™s hard to find how to use wallets, participate in frames etc, which maybe you guys could solve by creating a guide to appear when you enter the first time in farcaster, a video explaining would be something that could guide these people a lot to stay, and of course options for different languages and so they would have a โ€œpresentationโ€ as a first experience

They complained about the harsh spam algorithm on newbies but itโ€™s understandable for users because it kinda protect us from scammers
