anyone on here use the Tonal home gym?

i’ve been getting back into using mine, and man, what a great piece of equipment for home weight lifting

i’ve come to prefer it to solo lifts at the gym because it’s safer and i’m less inclined to try and be a hero and hurt myself with too much weight

Yeah that's the only downer with Vitruvian is that lack of overhead. They did show off an overhead attachment that is still in development called the V-Frame and a rower attachment that is in development too. Either way though, I'm in love with the tech coming out for home fitness. It's hit a nice balance.

Tonal digital weight is high enough that i really don’t see myself ever maxing it, but for stuff like dead lifts, Vitruvian is likely better

though Tonal can do overhead and Vitruvian can’t

I personally have the Vitruvian. I love mine and it maxes weight out at 440lbs. More portable too but I love these home gym platforms in general.

i think the biggest think is that it’s much smaller and it’s pretty easy to adjust between moves

and ofc the programming with dynamic weight modes

has an eccentric weight mode, auto-spotter, etc.

What’s the biggest diff between it and a normal functional trainer (i.e. cables and weight stacks)?

not every decide 1-to-1

but it gives you a way to work every muscle group, yes

including pull down exercises and squat style exercises which are sometimes missing in other equipment

Do you feel like you can do all of the exercises you would do at the gym with it?

yep just added a FID bench to it, it’s unstoppable.

One thing is I do my own workout now tho because all the trainer ones so far are circuits which are just ineffective for building muscle imo

@sathaxe i know does, if we had the space for a home gym would be all over it

Prefer a barbell but it’s great in a pinch. And my wife prefers it for the safety/guidance/flexibility

Kettlebells are the best home workout tool

Looks great for home workouts. I can see them adding a video AI personal trainer to that and it being amazing.

I’ve used it a few times at hotels and am a big fan. 

If I didn’t have a gym in my building, or easy access to one, I’d definitely consider Tonal as a home gym option

Surprise benefit as well is all the yoga workouts. Never been really into them before but got a lot of great stretching done.

Another nice thing is custom workouts. Overdid my it band lately so added a bunch of glute/hip exercises to my custom workouts.

Got it in September and used it almost every day since. Weight lifting is so much faster without travel to gym and loading/unloading weights (and waiting for equipment to be available etc etc). Also nice bonus is my wife and I (both wfh) really enjoy working out together now as tonal makes that easy.

How much space would you say you realistically need for it? I've always been temped to get it but hard to find space for it in a 2BD apt...

I wanted to buy it but wasn’t sure if it’s a good replacement for actual weights at the gym which is a tried and true way.
