Interesting take. Never really thought of it physiologically. Always figured time wearing you down with disappointment, frustration, betrayal, etc. coupled with immense gratitude, joy, etc. “Can’t feel pleasure without pain” type beat. But you’re probably right. You gotta get physically rocked to truly know yourself.

You're right; self-discovery is a lifelong journey, but it's not always tied to age. Those who do gain deep self-awareness at a young age are indeed rare and often possess a unique perspective. Or do you think there are factors that contributes to early self-awareness?
