I was actually at Network School in January for three weeks. My first day there, I whipped up a basic app where you can plug in your location, priorities, and budget, and you’d get an AI-generated PDF pointing you to all the resources you’d need to start your own society-as-a-service. Last night I felt motivated to tidy it up a little bit to share here. It’s not without its bugs since this was a quick thing, but hopefully it’ll be of use to some folks. https://society-as-a-service-planner.replit.app

Anyone who believes that what happened to school in Malaysia has any kind of long-term impact on the development of network states (or some new apex societal structure akin to them) has no clue what network states actually are. Balaji’s definition and ideas have popularized 1) that modern technology makes it possible to build new kinds of supranational coordinated entities, and 2) a specific but probably intentionally narrow idea of how such an entity *could* begin and evolve. However, most people who encountered this idea placed much more focus on 2 than on 1. Whether people like it or not, it’s not just “the west is declining”, but nation states in general are losing cultural and ideological (and soon more types) of influence because of modern technological developments. By its nature, this technology, will eventually enable *some* kind of post-nation state world. But Balaji’s implementation is only one way to go about it. (Continued)

I’m actually open to helping you all become better at host nation relations especially if you think of the final state re: diplomatic recognition. The current way isn’t the way. And while I don’t share the same thoughts on being anti-Israel like many on social media do (I’m anti-no one, just to be clear - I’m a child of the early internet, you could be a dog for all I care) in malaysia, this is something to navigate. If you want my number, it’s a dm away for Balaji to reach out. Key is I like the network state idea, I just think you’re bungling up a great thing you’ll never easily get somewhere else. @codyb.eth @baseddesigner.eth @darrylyeo @shoni.eth

Moving to @ns is already the single best career + life decision I’ve made. $1,500/month all-inclusive subscription including three healthy meals a day, serviced hotel/apartment room, co-working spaces, gym, classes/workshops all week long, group conference travel around Asia, and an optimistic, ambitious, tech-forward international community of all ages, family sizes and walks of life, achieving life milestones together while learning and building things that actually matter. If the defaults where you live are no longer working in your favor, change your defaults, help build the alternative, and set an example for the rest of the world to follow.

Day 3 into @networkschool and multiple people have remarked (after I answer where I’m from) that I definitely fit their archetype of a San Francisco tech bro 🤓 I just find it funny because I learned most of what I know from hackathons, the Internet and years of self-study. Up until I decided to try a /frontiertower membership earlier this year I had never actually stepped foot in the city proper for any period longer than two days. In hindsight I’ve been quite sheltered from the crazy cutthroat entrepreneurship culture that was around me all along. I happen to be born and raised in the Bay Area but I honestly think I could have come from anywhere. An edge case in the fractal pool of global dark talent, perhaps 🌌

I will be at @networkschool in Malaysia for the entire month of May and participating in the programming for ETH NS. Excited for the opportunity to lock in and learn from smart folks building at the frontier. If you know anyone attending, tag them here for me please! https://ethns.io
