Question for the FC intelligensia: Why don't we have more apps launching onchain?

We need more apps.

It's insanity that after 10 years we've still barely seen any crypto / blockchain apps go mainstream, yet companies are still rebuilding the same programming environments over and over expecting a different result.

Now we have close to 1,000 L1s and L2s,

Can't cross the chasm unless you reach saturation with early adopters.

Building a crypto app for mainstream is still more friction / worse than a normal web2 app. That may change, but not there today.

So only path is winning a large % of crypto.

they don't use the apps and then what happens? They don't see what's wrong and needs fixing? They don't lead by example?

Not enough users.

A large % of cryptonatives -- with audiences -- would rather pontificate about the forthcoming consumer onboarding wave on Twitter than spend time using the apps.

Cycle repeats.

if I was fired from Eigen today, this is where I would start work tomorrow.

I’m working on one right now. My goal is to make the crypto parts undetectable to a normie. I think the key to this is using embedded wallets, sponsored gas, no fiat on-ramps required. If we get one good mass market example of a frictionless crypto experience in an app/game others will follow.

people are being lazy and going after the low hanging fruit of strapping crypto to existing products and thinking that makes those products better

vs thinking about what products you can build that are completely impossible WITHOUT decentralized money

Crypto tries to perceive itself as Manhattan in the Great Gatsby, but really we are the Valley of Ashes industrial wasteland on the way in.

Two reasons: 

Because people sell onchain as the feature not the infrastructure. This immediately limits the market. 

And then if we’re being honest with ourselves, the majority of builders building onchain are building for a narrow audience of gamblers.

lots of headwinds to build and distribute onchain apps that feel like normal apps

genuinely believe that mini apps can change this so I anticipate big growth here this year
