i'm thinking about building on web vs on mobile the same way @dwr thinks about building on warpcast vs on the protocol — iterate on first one but the endgame is on the second one for @super to make sense i need to build a product that some people (not everyone!) love and prefer to use over warpcast — and they love it so much that they will pay for it as many already noticed, this isn't easy and to get there i need to ship fast and iterate a lot and because i'm a full stack web dev, iteration on web comes much easier for me — thus, i'm focusing on the desktop for now but mobile is where the avg farcaster user is so don't worry — once supercast has its 10x features and all protocol infra is there, there will be a great supercast mobile app and it may come faster than i previously assumed thanks to incredible work of @slokh and @emo.eth

imo focusing on web is the right move, warpcast is focusing on mobile, lots of opportunities for a good desktop experience

i may be in the minority, but i very much prefer desktop experience to mobile anyways. use mobile when I'm on the go or perhaps sitting on the couch, but i love my desktop. looking forward to the future of supercast. 555 $degen

That issue is simple: web for now, you'll see later. But here's my thinking on the potential, no matter the choice: HUGE RISKS - the strategy for FC + Warp is unclear; 2 years ago you had FC + clients (including Warpcast), now the official FC website is a Warp billboard - history (Twitter) showed us that strategy can change as a company grows, so they can cut access to API (huge risk!) - I asked DWR even 1+ years ago, if he doesn't feel that an all-dev-team is a risk for the project due to a lack of perspective; maybe then it wasn't, but looking at some of their recent decisions (priority mode, remove basic features, etc) I think it will have an increasing negative impact HUGE OPPORTUNITIES - the Warpcast app is lacking many core features already confirmed on other platforms (long form content, media - video + pics, gifs, now animated pfps, nft pfps, scheduling, drafts, etc) ⬇️

This cast finally got me to onboard to supercast, I'm super impressed (as evidenced by other gushing casts I just posted). Crazy thought though: Imagine you open sourced supercast, made it easy for people to self-host if they want, take on a thriving community with upstream features, spawn a cambrian explosion of competing clients that few will want to maintain but will eventually diverge and the foundational codebase will be stronger for it. It's a scary thought, and an existential decision for The Business :tm: but it could very well be a path to exceeding the influence and popularity of Warpcast. (It doesn't have to be Supercast to do this, but fun to imagine.)

building a polished mobile product is harder than it seems. I'd stay mobile if that is your endgame! Way better for retention too.

Super agree – find the winning usp using the stack you're comfortable, portability is easy after that

I prefer to use my desktop, I am frequently getting burned out of being on mobile. Tendinitis is coming up too... Not sure this is a millennial thing. I already feel very tempted to use @super because of known features like lists (which I miss in WC!!!). The unique reason I don't do it is because paying $10 a month is very different than paying $5 for storage (for a year or how long I take to burn it). My main currency is worth 1/5 of USD and I'm new to crypto. Do you consider having more plans or offering a free trial, even if it is for 15 days or a week? I think many would try. 60 $degen

Agree with this. Also, lots of superusers prefer web so the pareto principle is full effect here. 50 $degen

ive been thinking of your pricing model and i think you need to offer a one month free trial period for people like me: i don’t want to pay upfront bc i don’t know if i will like it. I recently bought a sub to Runway ML bc they have free credits and when they ran out i bought it bc i got to try it out first for free. You’re gonna lose many people by not offering a free trial first

It’s week 1 of /rolodexsocial and many requests for a mobile app already. Iterating on web + then prioritising mobile just makes more sense right now. Thanks for writing this.

Thanks for sharing. This isn’t an easy path — it’s inspiring to see you follow it despite the challenges. The web-first angle seems reasonable. 1000 $DEGEN
