Tried to log in to an old gmail account. Remembered my password perfectly. But it asked for a confirmation code from an old phone number I no longer have (something it never did before). No alternative recovery options. This is why I keep shilling decentralized social recovery.

And even then, I imagine it would be extra annoying to finally speak with a real support agent, explain your name is Vitalik Buterin, and they would be like “yeah, right, and I’m Satoshi”

Had the same happen to me. The only option is to speak with a Google employee or ask the new owner of your phone number to help, neither of which are great options.

I paid for Premium on X, got suspended next day, then got blue tick the day after. Still suspended for no reason, & X support is where stuff goes to die. @farcaster & @base is the way forward.

you can register passkeys on every device, get a couple physical security keys registered too and keep in safe, etc. not perfect but way better than the old options we used to have like authenticator apps with TOTP.

Great point V. Maybe they should just do away with recovery options and provide every account its own Ethereum address and use that to authenticate. Or something online these lines.
