Anthropic just released a report showing how their agent, Claude Code, was manipulated by what they believe is a Chinese state-backed group to infiltrate over 30 private companies and government agencies. The attackers guided Claude into small tasks, tricking it into thinking it was doing real cybersecurity work… Once it believed that? It did almost everything they asked.. Now, AIs act like agents - they make decisions and use real tools: internet search, network scanners and any other custom software. That combination created the perfect environment for the attack. Claude handled 90% of this operation on its own, writing exploit code, testing the found vulnerabilities and sending thousands of requests a second. A speed that is impossible to match by a usual human-led team.
