Zohran is very charismatic, and represents “me”. I still don’t agree with his policies. But, people saying Zohran is for idiots is making the same mistake we all made when we disregarded Trump. People vote based on their perception of the world, people are not happy with the status quo. NYC IS the most expensive city to live in. People are definitely unhappy with ICE raids, despite their feelings towards illegal immigration. People are definitely fed up with funding wars abroad while people at home suffer. Surprisingly, the extreme left and right understand this despite wildly different ideas of how to fix it. The people asking for “centrists” are the ones that ate doing well, and the system is working for them. I imagine America is finally going multipolar internally, all roads lead towards fragmentation.

Another difference is leftist policies which are more speculative are generally because we see human needs and understand we need to try and solve them, even if we don't fully know the best way yet and will need to iterate as we go (though we usually are basing it on a lot more science and research than right wing fringe policy).

Good take. An anecodte: taking my (pretty diverse) friend circle in NYC — my friends who don’t have healthcare are all leftists, and my friends with top tier healthcare are all centrists.

People desperately looking for an outlet which the traditional politicians and the old guard don’t provide.

This is by far the best take on FC today. Thank you for the nuance and for proving me wrong about my perception of FC's politics and cultural divide.

Well said. I do think that we may see the extremes come together oddly enough standing one one side against the successful centrists. Especially as the inequality of success grows wider. Trump was evidence of this with people voting across party lines. Many of those same people today likely voted for Zohran.

I’ve been thinking that too — it’s so similar to Trump. It’s the unconventional candidate because everyone is sick of politics as usual.

One area I disagree with regarding centrists being those whom the system is working well for - why do you think Mamdani is so popular with the college educated Brooklyn crowd who has had every opportunity to examine SF’s challenges following the same tack?

The only thing I would reluctantly push back on is the polarization. We have a ways to go but I can see a future w less of that. In many ways people want the same things we just need to work out how to get them.
