Power Broker has been on my list for a decade lol.

Easy: Down and Out in Paris and London, will make you appreciate the incredible wealth and abundance of modern life 

Medium: The Power Broker, will change the way you see the accumulation and exercise of power 

Hard: The Golden Bough, will make you believe in the reality of ancient magic

Impossible: Tao Te Ching, you have to put a lot of yourself into it and it might be too late already, but if you go in with a beginner’s mind, you’ll get more out of this than anything else. I recommend reading a half dozen different translations at least and synthesizing your own version 

Bonus: 100 Years of Solitude, will give you a fresh perspective on reality the way that traveling abroad gives you a fresh perspective on home

would like to shake up some western constraints / assumptions

history is good at doing this (it wasn’t always like this!) but so is philosophy and religion (it wasn’t ever like that!)

never split the difference by chris voss

fbi hostage negotiator teaching his negotiation tactics. i never realized how often negotiation happens in every day life until after that book. i try to use those methods sparingly though, because it can easily turn into manipulation

I really love the Evolution of Cooperation by Robert Axelrod. I think about the concepts from this book at least once a month

You seem well-read but these are game-changing books if you haven’t read ‘em!

Actually the tao and art of war clicked for me much more after reading Gita and I Ching

1. The Dispossessed – Ursula K. Le Guin
A sci-fi novel exploring freedom, capitalism, and alternative societies.


2. Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind – Yuval Noah Harari
A thought-provoking look at human history and the myths that shape civilization.

my two favs in this category, first goes through every form of rebellion one by one starting at prometheus

second gives a mental framework for learning what you don’t know you don’t know
