Some days I watch video essays on what's happening on the socials I am not using (insta, tiktok) and... is it just me or isn't this whole "no-makeup makeup" stuff a scam? 

These people sell you 50 step routines (incl. lots of makeup) so you look like you haven't used any? 

Nah thanks, I'll just be lazy instead.

They all get crazy procedures done and pretend like some toner did it. 


I have to patch test like crazy and even then I still introduce something my skin doesn’t like all the time. It’s a constant battle.

I actually tried the toner serum thing, and it made my skin worse. I went back to minimal, and now my skin looks great. 

My body is telling me something, it approves of my laziness (using some active ingredients, good moisturizer, night cream, always sunscreen). 

but I found lot of these "clean girl" influencers do probably lot more than just use skincare products, but also get fillers and whatever other treatments one can. So probably just another one of those things giving people insecurity

lol, I use a lot of skincare so that I don’t have to wear make up but probably the same amount of effort

Well and when in doubt you can get a cream from the dermatologist. Saved my brothers skin more recently, and gentle cleansers. better than most of what the drug store or tiktokshop will sell as miracle cures. 

The problem is mostly that there's the urge to pop pimples which can leave ugly scars.

I’m sometimes going to hard on my kids telling them to just use soap and water. Being a teenagers either acne isn’t easy.

But I also tell them
1. Hormones: where in your cycle are you?
2. Food: did you stuffed your face again with…?

if i make effort with makeup i want people to see it. also this contouring is way too much science for me and my skin can't handle the layering either so. 

same. most days I can't even be asked to put on foundation

It’s kinda funny how no-makeup makeup is just a full face disguised as minimalism. Like…why am I doing 12 steps to look like I did none? I respect the craft but I’m staying ugly and honest 🙂

the first part!!! so much of what’s taken from brown and black culture is then adopted and repackaged into “trends”

people’s perceptions have been skewed so much that even pores on skin or the texture on hands or dark underarms (list goes on) is brought out like it’s suddenly an issue now, only to sell more products. manufacture insecurities and then sell them solutions lol

yeh also somewhere i saw some one argue that it's fascist.. i mean most the clean girls are white and in many ways this is a look that black and brown people have been rocking for decades (but when they did it is called ghetto) and now here we are ahaha

yeah, kinda insane now this trickles down into the real world and morphs perception and expectation. i'm quite happy to not be on these platforms, and get most my view of real humans from the offline world. Most people in my surroundings just look like normal people with normal skin.

it’s 100% a scam lol. it also sets the narrative for men that “no makeup makeup” is better than a full face of makeup, because they think they have nothing on and look down on women who do the latter

another thing that bothers me about it is you need to have absolutely flawless skin to achieve the clean girl look, which the influencers have because of the amount of procedures they get done bts but don’t always talk about. a good chunk of women wear makeup to hide scars, uneven skin tone etc in the first place

Video content everywhere for any topic is just a series of things you're not doing (buying) enough, it's never ending 😩

I call it no makeup, no routine, just vibes

You need to treat everything wisely and know what is best for you, everything is individual 🧖🏼‍♀️🩷.
