emotional attachment + repetition once an idea occurs, the brain starts looking for evidence to support it (whether it’s true or not). when there is an emotion tied to it, new neural pathways are carved and beliefs are formed. also, watch Inside Out 2 for a fun illustration of the process haha

These associations can be so powerful that they trigger the belief, such as fear, even in the absence of an actual threat.
