I am incredibly bullish on the upcoming changes to channels. Creators will have much more granular control over their communities and the experience for users will be substantially different from alternatives. A better version of Telegram—all onchain.

My thinking is that telegram sucks ass but has 100s of millions of users. But it’s basically impossible to use for anything of importance IMO. Trying to keep track of info on a TG channel is a nightmare. Not to mention the scammers.

Channels has the potential to create a similar community experience with 20x better features and control for users. A much better experience with the same community feel.

Im bullish now too. Wasnt at first, but i think itcwill be an improved experience.

Agreed. You can kind of see how some of that culture is metastasizing already just with Moxie. The changes will supercharge that.

yeah absolutely. I'm really excited about users being owners of the channels they use (for the channels that opt in to FT gated membership). I think a really unique culture will emerge from that which doesn't exist anywhere else on the internet.

True. My only problem is for channels like /venting many people may want to cast to it from time to time so they should be members but they may not want to be followers! 
Following a channel affects your feed and people will not want venting from other people to appear on their feed! 
My idea of an open channel is a channel where people can cast in without following which is not possible atm.

Open channels will technically be possible day 1. Owner can just put a public invite link in their channel description. I believe we’re getting some additional creative space at the top of the channel for more info too.

That's an interesting pov. It's like an X, TG hybrid on steroids If they allow open channels in the future.

Entirely up to the channel owners. If a channel wants to remain open, they can leave a public invite link.

Channels that are communities or those with strong leadership should be awesome. Very curated spaces. 

Do you want to help mod success? It might take an hour of your time at first as mods will be who review comments to make sure no good is hidden below the fold.

It’s popular because of the lack of good alternatives but does not make it a good product in my opinion.

Because it has 100s of millions of daily users. 

And this will create a far better experience for exactly the reasons you name+ 20 others.

I wonder why people keep referring to telegram. It has horrible UX and is super chaotic. But I am excited for the channels :)

I was down on the channel changes initially but seeing yours and a few other’s takes on it is definitely making me more optimistic about how these new features can be played with and implemented

It turns out that before adding to the channel, the channel owner will be able to check what content is carried by the user and decide whether to let him in or not?

It will be like a request to add, right?

Yea i think its gonna be an adjustment period then off to the races like it usually is when new stuff happens.
