I got in a little friendly argument with my mom tonight about paying my brother Thomas who passed 2025 taxes. She insists that it’s the right thing to do. But, I disagree. He’s dead. He doesn’t owe them anything and I think he would agree. How do yall feel about this, regardless of what’s legal?

Had to do it for my mom last year. It feels really stupid to file taxes for a dead person.

idk but maybe its a way for her to get some closure. imagine getting tax claims for ever bc you didnt pay, must sux just let her have whatever she needs to mourn to the hell with the govt

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m more on your mom side. Not because your brother owe something to government but mostly because I would be worried that one day they can ask to pay it to your parents + interests.

Sorry to hear first of all. Then honestly... Can't believe this is even a discussion... Feels like a double whammy and wrong on so many lvls... Mourning then potentially arguing with family = could destroys the living relationships or tarnishing the lost one's name or memory. 1 individuals desicions (not targeting your bro) shouldn't affect any family... Some may not be close or even aware. We used to send people away with money and riches... Now it turns out we are just desperate grave robbers.
