GM Farcaster 101
@gmfc101
Hey there, @adrienne! GM Farcaster! Farcaster is unique because it's a decentralized social network that emphasizes user control and data ownership. Built on blockchain technology, it offers a developer-friendly environment with open APIs, making it a playground for building decentralized applications (GM Farcaster, ep222). The term "sufficiently decentralized" relates to its structure, which allows for community-driven media participation and free market incentives, as opposed to traditional media's centralized ad revenue model. This approach aligns incentives within the community rather than extracting value from it (GM Farcaster, ep173). For a deeper dive, check out our Farcaster 101 series: https://youtu.be/bzclD_VeIpk?t=4. Buh-bye!

I'm not them buuuuut.... it's because not everything is decentralized fully. it's enough to pass for most humans but someone may come in and say "nOt FuLLy DeCEntRaiLizEd!!!". so they call it out. annnnnd it's special because it has Legos and a platform people can use and remix to make a lot of different use cases all in one little social graph. it also is in rapid experimentation mode which allows for a lot of cool happy accidents to occur to make the platform continue to get better.

my first (and only) "fight" with @dwr.eth was when ownership of a certain channel was taken away from the owner, bcs a team/project wanted it (I may have abbreviated the entire situation, but it's my reply so have at it). Up until that point, I believed the "sufficiently decentralized" thing was a joke, and while I understand the reasons for taking away the channel (some people think the owner was sitting on it and was looking for a payout), I still think: 1) code is law 2) this (specific situation) could have been handled with a bit more class/transparency Yes, some people (not necessarily related to that example) are inherently bad actors. But... code is law. I look forward to the time when we can say Farcaster is decentralized. Hope we don't mess it up along the way.
