what does the future where “everything goes right” in the API first path look like?
would it have to depend on developers to one up how farcaster og client is doing?

Farcaster's greatest failure is expressed by the lack of clients over time.
Idk whose fault, but "client" was branded as something different than it actually is. Anything using fc data is a client; doesn't need to be a full experience and certainly doesn't need to be another twitter clone.
The 1st party app is a frankenstein and soaked with bad vibes. Tbd the whole brand is tainted.
Wouldn't be surprised if a simpler community-led client with a totally different color scheme revived the community. All the value is and always was in the community anyway

this has already been tried. lens was api and infra only and let devs build the apps on top. it was fucking terrible. the core team didnt know what the pain points were and what devs really needed. keep wasting time on shit no one asked for and never got used.
this will be the death of farcaster.

that's an interesting angle I hadn't thought of
I do wonder how much the current team wants to live and breath "social media" (even the last team tbh)
they always seemed more obsessed with the tech side vs the social app side
so it would def make sense to step back and support the founders who want to spearhead the social side, while they simply worry about providing a great backend
