... and why I've divested/ retreated from farcaster. the weird "yarvin, thiel, andreeson, musk" cabal that dan finds so inspiring and helpful is deeply worrying. for reasons /besides/ farcaster: palantir is what cops use to track their ex girlfriends; yarvin thinks slavery is natural and fair; thiel is actively undermining american democracy; andreeson glazes trump on the regular with technofascist glee; and musk, well...

it's all bad. and dangerously close to home.

musk was loud n' proud in that regard. and yes, accountability is a forgone notion when it comes to men of means. 

in the end, after two months of research, i couldn't reconcile the misleading promise of farcaster with the reality of its ownership and financial backers. if farcaster succeeds, it will host palantir 🎻

Yeah I'm right there with you. It is despicable and morally bankrupt to hold them in such high regard. His defenses have always been what-about-isms, which are logically invalid arguments. They like to avoid culpability for the social impacts of fascistic policy and business practices; might as well start giving stiff arm salutes.

Well one thing that's certainly true about this place and X: despite the bad ideologies of the owners and the goons who share them, there are so many more who absolutely disagree. I will always maintain the belief that humanity and compassion are naturally present in most people. They prove me right all the time.

I’m torn too. On the one hand, I can’t be complicit in the rise of /another/ right wing echo chamber. On the other, I refuse to let farcaster hold my attention hostage for any reason. If we bail, it turns into a right wing hell hole. If we stay, dan politely turns the screws, transforming it into a right wing hell hole anyway. Or it never spoils, succeeds wildly, and we’ve helped Dan and friends make giant piles of money. All paths are bad.

I dont disagree, but to me we can't abandon these spaces to the other side ( one reason Id stay in the south even if not for family obligations)
