<rant> Few days ago I saw the meme on the left. I don’t understand this. What’s the point of having calluses on the hands? You are training to have better muscles, not worst hands. Is this some kind of toxic gym ritual? If I run, I want my feet to be comfortable so I can run more, I don’t run barefoot to show off the blisters… Proof of work are the results, not the scars. I can have calluses but having the worst possible training effect. And I’m pretty sure that having pain on the hands reduces your performance after all (as with feet blisters). The meme on the right does not make any sense and the one on the left should be considered the same. </rant>

I think with the barefoot running at least the idea is that you have to get through that pain stage to build up the callouses (desensitize the foot essentially) to then be able to do it without any pain at all.

Why desensitize a part of your body when you can easily use technology? Does not make any sense to me. Pro athletes run with the latest innovation, not barefoot. It’s just ego running/lifting to show off that you are “strong” because you suffer.

A lot of barefoot runners think that the tech is a big scam sold as a necessity by huge companies that doesn't actually help at all, and in some cases hinders something that functions perfectly well already - the foot - by forcing it to move in a certain way, also causing injuries by doing so in other parts of the body. Hips, groin, back etc. I think showing strength through suffering is a part of it but not the whole picture. I think a lot of people don't actually do it to feel pain, they genuinely thing that mechanically it's better. Obviously running surface is a huge influence too that isn't often always considered. I run in shoes by the way.

🤔mechanically better. So who lift without gloves think that using a glove hinder some kind of movement?

Lot of research around carbon plate tech and they think the shoes hinders natural movements instead of enhancing… sound so luddite.
