<rant> Few days ago I saw the meme on the left. I don’t understand this. What’s the point of having calluses on the hands? You are training to have better muscles, not worst hands. Is this some kind of toxic gym ritual? If I run, I want my feet to be comfortable so I can run more, I don’t run barefoot to show off the blisters… Proof of work are the results, not the scars. I can have calluses but having the worst possible training effect. And I’m pretty sure that having pain on the hands reduces your performance after all (as with feet blisters). The meme on the right does not make any sense and the one on the left should be considered the same. </rant>

I think with the barefoot running at least the idea is that you have to get through that pain stage to build up the callouses (desensitize the foot essentially) to then be able to do it without any pain at all.
