how you host the hub without $$$ though? i considered running one locally on my NUC but then whenever my internet goes down the app would go down

I was thinking about this the other day. I wonder how many ppl would run their own hub or node or whatever is needed so that they could have a "local only" client and serve themselves their own Farcaster experience. You could control what you keep indexed and archived. Basically having your own "light-node" of what matters to you. Is this tracking or did I go down a tangent?

Won't hubs be deprecated pretty soon? You might need to use a Snapchain node, which might be a bit more expensive than a hub. Plus you would also need some basic indexing, even if the client is light, that is if you want feeds, and notifications. Main barrier is that it will have a significant cost and also cost it will scale up with the number of users.

Yes!!! I think there are some ok compromises one can do to make this viable. For example, if you say that this will be a personal client (one deployment per user), you can filter and store messages only from people you follow, and backfill other messages on demand.
