i am excited by zora's creator coin update. imo most "socialfi" attempts to-date have failed because traditional social tokens lack any underlying economics; they are closer to memecoins and just move up and down reflexively, most of the time burj khalifa-ing after the meta shifts on to something new. zora's update shifts social tokens one step closer to investing in a creator business instead of investing in a creator memecoin, with the first revenues being fees generated from the content coins paired in the creator token. mechanism-wise this feels like the end state to me, the hard part now (always has been etc.) is growing adoption of the coining behavior - for the above to be true, creators still need to actually coin stuff and traders/investors still need to actually buy content coins. gg to the team.

what’s the thinking behind buying a content coin if you want to support a creator? why buy the content coin instead of the creator coin?

I still struggle with the value of these coins. Like why would people buy it fr? @theiaresearch wrote an awesome essay about lemon markets and to me this whole category looks lemony. maybe it’s a completely different category, but how do you generally price a creator coin?

“creators still need to actually coin stuff and traders/investors still need to actually buy content coins” This is the fundamental problem with this model imo, and the main reason most of these creator coin experiments have failed These are primarily vehicles for speculation and always will be. And speculating on people (even if you call them “creators”) will always give a lot of people the ick

the $zora coin is so low rn that if the cabal could somehow get it to go off then the creator coins paired with it and everything else could go bananas. a million beta plays would be born

i also think the creator coin update is excellent. challenge now is how do you communicate it easily and clearly to the target audience required to drive this: creators. the graph is neat on a business level, but i don't find it easily digestible to a brand new creator.

100% agree with behaviour change on coining content creators worth increase driven by content they share, but curious to see how the market react with high profile web2 creators who arent coining their content but have zora $creator profile

burj khalifa-ing will always happen with content coin since its more speculative asset but creators coin leans to "this is pointless" investment chart cos it feels more "honest" to support creator than content

it does feel like a huge step forward, agree big time but guessing this iteration is DOA because the math doesn't work. something is very wrong, losing tremendous amounts like 20-40% to constant $post/$creator $creator/$zora and $zora/$eth slippage I wonder if it's an LP issue or what, but I think this is why many coins have not successfully been paired with something other than ETH. wonder what can be learned from $virtuals on this front

>the first revenues being fees generated from the content coins paired in the creator token. is this the case? the content is paired with the creator coins, but fees generated flow to the creator, not the creator coin (nor its holders). or did i misunderstand what you’re saying?
