i dunno if this is cope or bullish or what, but for the first time in a very long time i don't feel that there are massive gaps of work to be done in ethereum that no one is doing

feels like everything important that i can think of is actively being invested in and worked on by top tier builders

is this alignment?

The question I submitted to the EF AMA:

In the EF's mission of making the Internet better, how should it approach the necessary integration work so that Ethereum becomes part of the broader Internet?

Things like ENS↔DNS integration, IPFS support in browsers, JavaScript support for p2p gossip, .eth as a TLD, advocacy within Internet standards bodies (IANA, W3C).

For example we don't have a seat at the table of the W3C Web Payments group, and as a result they're not considering any crypto payment options for standardization in browsers.

As another recent example, the recently-spec'd Passkeys credential exchange protocol doesn't feature permissionless export, something which would have been an obvious requirement had there been more crypto-type thinkers in the room.

Do you think the EF has a role to play here?

great! modern nodes are dramatically more efficient, we're adding more configurable/flexible sliding scale history features, lots of progress on zk proving old state that is outside of available history, and active research into old state expiry/replication (portal etc)

How are we looking in terms of state growth?

In terms of alignment we still need more crypto natives to commit to ETH. E.g. L2 tokens don't help.

If you’re feeling that sense of “nothing’s being neglected,” that’s probably the ecosystem syncing up infra, dev tools, L2s, account abstraction, all moving forward at once. Not cope. Could be the closest thing to alignment ETH had in years.

Future of stablecoin payments that is already possible today but blocked by regulatory uncertainty or regulatory capture:

1. Purchase protections/chargebacks: Shopify, Stripe, etc will happily escrow payments to merchants while collecting yield for the duration. They can mediate, or we can imagine third party mediator oracles (maybe escrow yield goes to mediators, the consumer, or merchant, tbd).

2. "Savings account interest" no longer comes from the custodian, but from the stablecoin itself. It doesn't matter where you hold it.

3. Treasury bill yield added to stablecoin yield. Right now banks have capture over this, but once banks get in on issuing stablecoins, we can imagine the combined yield being even higher. Far higher than what any traditional bank "savings account" could offer.

4. Credit-based stablecoin payments. We can already do this with collateralized loans, but new issuers or merchant platforms can offer additional facilities to customers based on history/autodeposit/custodied balances/etc.

i'm also a fan of grassroots unauthorized elections/referendums using zk proofs of passports (rarilabs freedom tool), already a few have been deployed, but just getting started

Web2/Web3 developer and builder of grassroots decentralized culture and governance. Not a maximalist of any kind. Writing this as I go.

Widespread adoption doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is aware of the use of blockchain in their applications. For example, relational databases undergird almost every software application in use today but very few users (relatively speaking) know or care about that. Empowering more decentralized and robust money movement is great but these centralizing entities will do what they do best with promising technologies. 

That last bit about ZK proof of passport sounds both very powerful and meaningful.

Who’s working on using Ethereum only behind the scenes as the programmable blockchain part of their application while actually revolutionizing some real-world function that begs to be disrupted by blockchain?
