I don’t understand why we give a symbol so much power over us

He is interested in why it makes everyone so angry

Why is Kanye releasing music praising hitler and producing clothing with hate symbols?

His art is about reactionary culture. He’s saying “look at how angry these people get at a symbol they have no real world experience with, look at how easily they call a black American racist for pointing at it”

There's a lot of trauma around this matter, and poking a finger in it and calling it art feels deeply insensitive

IMO, art is a tool for emotional catharsis. I think his recent "art" is net bad because it doesn't promote healing

And you’re missing the point— Kanye is autistic. I am autistic. I have always been an outsider. It is hard for me to empathize with why you are mad, since the whole thing is a silly identity politic.

He openly talks about hating Jews and spreads that message to his large audience. As a Jewish person this is hurtful and scary.

I think he must - even if only in some dopamine chasing or masochistic way - like that attention.

I have this same ability to get under people’s skin, and had a similar trajectory last cycle of being extremely loved for a couple months and pedestaled in a very uncomfortable and unrealistic way, then absolutely hated and cancelled for doing things that pissed people off (like trading from dev wallet, supporting a project that lost people money, calling out a known larp scammer, etc) and because I stepped on shibboleths that I don’t care about but other people do, people got real mad.

What I’ve found is that negative attention is not the same as positive attention. Sensitive creator nerd types are definitely affected when thousands of death threats come in. It’s draining. It makes you defensive, angry… villainous. You become the thing people hate.

And it’s hard not to feel indignant, like it is all so fucking stupid and people should chill and appreciate some jokes and art.

I agree that "nazi" has lost its meaning, and Kanye is playing on it.

Idk if Kanye is a real nazi because I haven't listened to his interviews. Even if I did, who knows if he doesn't treat himself as the work of art, so he'd say things he doesn't believe in just to get the reaction. 

But what I know for sure is that he's a PR savant and understands how to capture attention and spark a debate which is a part of artist's job.

Is it net good or net bad for the society is another question.

I just finished Man’s Search for Meaning, the first half is a very real depiction of what the holocaust was like, and it was absolutely horrible

But this thing happened so long ago that the experience is a memory handed to us, and the hatred behind it is something that we inherit unquestioningly

What happened is Kanye was ostracized for other things, and then he ended up in the arms of the Qanon folks who told him that nothing was his fault, the Jews who run Hollywood had it our for him, etc etc

He was one the few people saying the quiet parts out loud:

That’s not what’s happening. You’re glazing a man who openly praises Hitler, who committed millions of people to die. He gassed anyone diagnosed with a psychiatric condition.
