to become a parent is a decision to take on the heroic task of becoming your best self. not in a yoga-self-care-meditation-journaling type of way but in a you-face-your-self sort of way. kids and marriage are a forcing function to face your truths. and in choosing to do it right, reaching a deep sense of fulfillment unlike anything else. ofc only in hindsight, so more of a reflection than a guide. pre-dad seneca would have been like “ok, yolo”.

It's hard work. And lack of self awareness is a hindrance. Brutal, painful honesty is the only way to become the parent a kid deserves

I found that being a father highlights my own flaws and traits which I don't want my son to grow up with, I realize that's what makes me who I am but since becoming a dad it's made me become a better person.. I teach him but he also gives me my own life lessons

You are absolutely spot on. You face your self abd task yourself to level up! Your perspective and POV about certain things change. For me, the risk I take Previously just cos "YOLO" ,I now re-evaluate the situation and air on the side of caution.

This is especially resonant as my partner and I are trying for our first child. The process has stirred up a lot of face-my-true-self sort of questions, which I expected but not to this degree. It's powerful and wild that the mere prospect of creating life can evoke deep introspection.

On parenting and spoiling for that matter, I always find it helpful to remember that no other success in life will compensate for failure within the walls of one’s own home… every second counts and we get to decide how we act. These actions ultimately delineate our character.
